Summary: DataExtract AI does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your API keys are stored only on your device.
1. Overview
DataExtract AI ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that helps users extract structured data from web pages using AI. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles your data.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
No personal information — We do not collect your name, email, IP address, or any identifying information.
No browsing history — We do not track which websites you visit.
No analytics or telemetry — We do not use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or any tracking tools.
No cookies — The Extension does not set or read any cookies.
No server-side storage — We do not operate any backend servers that store user data.
3. Data Stored Locally
The Extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API:
AI Provider selection — Your choice of OpenAI or Anthropic.
API Key — Your AI provider API key (stored only on your device, never transmitted to us).
Settings — Your preferences (e.g., maximum rows per extraction).
This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time by removing the Extension or clearing Extension storage in Chrome settings.
4. Data Sent to Third-Party AI Providers
When you click "Extract with AI," the Extension sends the HTML content of your selected elements to your chosen AI provider:
OpenAI (GPT-4o-mini)
Endpoint: api.openai.com
Data sent: Selected HTML content + extraction instructions
BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) model: The Extension uses YOUR API key to call the AI provider directly from your browser. We never see or have access to your API key or the data you extract. The data flows directly from your browser to the AI provider's API.
5. Permissions Explained
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
activeTab — Allows the Extension to interact with the current tab only when you click the Extension icon. No background access to any tabs.
storage — Used to save your settings (API key, provider preference) locally on your device.
scripting — Used to inject the element selection UI into the current page when you activate the Extension.
The Extension does NOT request tabs, history, bookmarks, or any other broad permissions.
6. Data Security
Your API key is stored locally using Chrome's secure storage API.
All API calls use HTTPS encryption.
No data is logged, cached, or persisted after extraction results are displayed.
Extraction results exist only in the Extension popup's memory and are cleared when you close the popup.
7. Children's Privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
